6 Steps to A Positive Mind
Time for a little personal post.
We live in such a fast paced world (my Torontonians will most likely agree). Sometimes things can get overwhelming. Sometimes, we find ourselves spiraling into a negative black hole. Now, I’m not going to sit here and pretend that I’m an expert or anything, because I really am not. I just know that these steps have worked for me in terms of becoming more positive.
1) Acknowledge and appreciate people/things that you are grateful for. Express yourself.
Sometimes it’s as easy as turning to your mom, significant other, and/or best friend and saying “I love you.” When you are positive and loving, those around you will exude that same behaviour! Which in turn creates a very positive environment.
2) Love Yourself
Who’s going to love us, if we don’t love ourselves?
Sometimes, this is easier said than done. We may all have our own flaws and traits that we may not like about ourselves. In order to be happy, you just have to learn to accept who you are and embrace the many positives. Just know that you are beautiful!
Daily, we face the pressures of others telling us how we are supposed to look, act, and others putting us down for the things we believe in. Why give others control over you? Really though, the “trend” in Trend Toronto stands for doing YOU. If you like something, make it a trend. Just do it.
3) Physical Exercise
I am the worst with this. All I know is when I do work out, I feel amazing afterwards. Working up a sweat and lifting weights really makes us feel good about ourselves overall and it always improves our mindset.
If you already go to the gym and don’t feel anything after your workouts. I would encourage you to change it up, and try something new. Maybe joining a new class for some extra motivation.Take those mirror selfies and really feel yourself. You work hard and it will show!
4) Habit Check
As humans, we are hardwired to be habitual. We like to follow the same routines, day in, day out. Sure, this makes our lives easier, but it also makes us get into a slump at times. To keep things interesting, change up your habits. Find simple ways to change things up in life. The more you can do this, the more you keep your mind and body on alert, as it has to keep learning. I personally love change. I really don’t like getting used to things or getting into a repetitive routine.
5) Acknowledge Failure
I’m not going to fluff this up for you; I’m going to keep it real with you.
Guess what – You are going to fail.
I’m sorry for sounding harsh, but this is the reality. I’ve failed. I’m sure you’ve failed, heck we’ve all failed at something, and we are going to continue to fail many times in life. Life will not only throw lemons at you but also squeeze them into your eyes.
There is actually nothing wrong with failing. In fact, you should be embracing failure.
When you go beyond your comfort limits, you are actually growing as an individual. It’s a natural process. Don’t ever fall for the lie that failure is not an option. I continuously tell myself this.
You will fail. You will struggle. Life is tough, but you just have to follow Dory’s advice and ‘Just Keep Swimming’.
Hardships are what really build character. When you push through the hard times think of it this way, the next time you encounter that situation it will be easier to get through. All because you’ve already proved to yourself that you can get through anything! This belief is a huge part of being positive.
Another tip to help you push through these tough times is to really take it a day at a time. There are many times where we go through a rough patch in our lives and we worry about what our life will be from now on. This isn’t the case.
Remember to take things one day at a time, and really take away the positives. In time, the though times will pass.
6) Surround yourself with Positive people
“You are the company you keep”, this old saying can’t be any truer. If you are always around unmotivated people, you too will be unmotivated. On the other hand, if you are hanging around successful people, you too can find success.
If you are the only one talking about ideas, while all your friends are talking about crap about other people, or are always putting you down, then chances are these people aren’t the best people to surround yourself with. You always want to be surrounded by positivity! Cut toxicity right at the root. It may hurt but it’s for everyone’s best interest!
I understand that it is not easy to push people out of your life, but you need to take control of every situation and make decisions based on what’s best for you, regardless of how difficult it maybe.
